THE COMPASSES AT PATTISWICK
– GREAT BRITISH PUB OF THE YEAR
Essex
gastro pub, The Compasses at Pattiswick, has been crowned Supreme
Champion at The Great British Pub of the Year Awards.
Top prize at the annual industry awards ceremony
was presented to Jane and Jono Clark, owners of The Compasses at
Pattiswick, by TV funny man Hugh Dennis at a glamorous dinner for
1000 of the industry’s top performers at London’s Park
Lane Hilton.
The
evening started well for the Clarks, winning Family Pub of the Year
for the East Anglia region, followed shortly by The Great British
Pub of the Year for their region. However, the big prize came with
the announcement that The Compasses at Pattiswick is the 2008 Great
British Pub of the Year.
Although every finalist received commendations
for their high standards the Judges reserved the finest accolades
for the Champions’ “The Compasses is a shining example
of a family pub that places wholesome food high on the agenda for
both adults and children. Jane and Jono deserve praise for seeing
a gap in the market and developing the Compasses to meet that demand.
They went on to say, “Everything about the
interior and exterior of this freehouse has been specified to give
customers an experience they won’t forget. Jane and Jono have
created a destination pub par excellence.”
Approaching the stage for the third time that evening,
the pride was clearly visible on the face of the Compasses owner,
“I cannot begin to describe how fantastic this is.”
Said Jono, “It is testament to the hard work and passion every
single one of the crew at The Compasses puts into the business.
I am so proud of them all.” |
